I found this pic of me back in my commercial fishing days (mid to late 80's). If you zoom in you will notice the faded GD T shirt - Oh and the 5 lb Mako was probably dead on the line - I used to set the live ones free after feeding them a squid (bait), it drove my captain nuts but I couldn't see killing the babies.

Hmmmmmmmm - looks like the pic did get attched even though I got a message saying it was too big and an error - oh well

....hmmm, actually my first thoughts were: 1.) That don't look like any beer I've ever had, and 2.) Where are the babes? Just being honest. ....I'll check it out again later after proper medication.

Though, Captain, I am jealous 'cuz not only have I never caught a fish, but I was the only kid in a camp someplace to snap a mast in half on a sailboat (or whatever that thing is called with the white sheet/sail). Instructor said it was "impossible."

Hahaha - next time your near Babylon look me up and we'll see if we can take you out for a sail and maybe even catch a fish. Snapping a mast is certainly not impossible - improbable maybe. The odd shaped beer bottle is Budwieser - the odd shaped fish a mako sans head and fins. The 'babes' were probably all up in Cap't Norms sucking back bad booze and waiting to take advantage of unwary fisherman who just got paid after a 7 day longline trip - we were awful soft touches after a few cold ones.

I'll send this to you with 2/3-rds of DP#13

OFF TO SEA ONCE MORE (JERRY/GRISMAN)
Lyrics: Traditional
Music: Traditional

When first I came to Liverpool
I went upon a spree
Me money alas I spent too fast
Got drunk as drunk could be
And when my money was all gone
'Twas then I wanted more
But a man must be blind to make up his mind
To go to sea once more

I spent the night with Angeline
Too drunk to roll in bed
My watch was new and my money too
In the mornin' with 'em she fled
And as I roamed the streets about
The whores they all would roar
Here comes Jack Rack, the young sailin' lad
He must go to sea once more

As I was walkin' down the street
I met with Rapper Brown
I asked for him to take me in
And he looked at me with a frown
He said "Last time you was paid off
With me you jobbed no score
But I'll take your advance and I'll give ya's a chance
And I'll send you to sea once more

I hired me aboard of a whaling ship (note 1)
Bound for the Artic seas
Where the cold winds blow through the frost and the snow
And Jamaican rum would freeze
And worst and bear I'd no hard weather gear
For I'd lost all my money ashore
'Twas then that I wished that I was dead
So I'd gone to sea no more

Some days we're catching whales me lads
And some days we're catching none
With a twenty foot oar cocked in our hands
From four o'clock in the morn
And when the shades of night come in
We rest on our weary oar
'Twas then I wished that I was dead
Or safe with the girls ashore

Come all you bold seafarin' men
And listen to my song
If you come off of them long trips
I'd have ya's not go wrong
Take my advice, drink no strong drink
Don't go sleeping with no whores
Get married lads and have all night in
So you'll go to sea no more
============================================================
Hey: congratulations on last weekend's victory. Great story. Beautiful boat.

Thanks - I love this tune. I've got the Shady Grove CD and also bought "Not for Kids Only" which my kids love. Really enjoy the old chantys - saw the Grateful Dawg on IFC once and that was real neat - Garcia and Grisman made quite a combo.

That's certainly early-mid 80's. They don't make beer bottles like that anymore

Oh boy now I stepped in it - yes Arthur is still alive - I last saw him at Liar's. And Dick Is doing well I think. I worked for Dick & Artie from 86 or 7 to about 91.

Nice shark, you should have stuffed it with crabmeat and threw it in the oven.

Im afraid I dont recognize you, but I did buy some fish from Richard over the years you fished on the boat.

Still fishing?

No. Now I'm a Mainframe IT guy - when I met my better half she informed me that she would not be married to a commercial fisherman - so I got a job on land and eventually ended up learning how to program mainframes in COBOL - small world huh (but I wouldn't want to paint it).
